Listening to Breaking Hearts, I wonder if people like this song, I have it live in 1984 from NYC and it rocks. I wonder if he released this as a single
somewhere, and if he didn't, does anyone here believe it should be?

What, a single now? They don't even have singles now. Anyway, great song. The chorus is a sort of tongue twister with a strange rhythm that takes a
while to remember, but once you figure it out, it's fun to sing along with it.

I always skip this song when I listen to that album. Almost every EJ album has that one song that I always jump over, and thats the one for me. It's just
dated sounding and lame.

I have to agree with Jnoble's assessment of Lil' Refrigerator. It's anything but quintessential Elton. Someone here recently criticized
Bernie's lyrics for Peachtree Road, but it's words like those found in Lil' Fridge that make me cringe - misogynistic and hackneyed.
Not that Lil' Fridge doesn't have a good beat. I actually like listening to it. It's just that it's way below Elton John songwriting standards. My guess is EJ was happy to have written it because it was a new rocker for him to play in concert, and he did play this one live. But Restless, from the same album, was far funkier; he also played Restless live, and it's one that could be successfully resurrected on stage. Had the song been released as a single back in '84- well, it wouldn't have been the best representative of the appeal of Breaking Hearts. I'm glad Sad Songs was the lead single in the U.S. and that it did so well. Somehow, hearing EJ do Lil' Fridge at his 60th birthday concert instead of Sad Songs would have been a little sad, and quite a head-scratcher. Should he release Lil' Fridge now? No way. It is a bit dated, which is its other major problem. One hopes EJ just sticks with his melodiousness and offers examples of that to the public from time to time. |

I like Breaking Hearts especially when I haven't heard it in a long time. Lil Frig... is a catchy tune.
