Yes, this album is much better than it's given credit for.
Tim Renwick's guitar playing is brought out in the mix in the way that Davey Johnstone's should be.

I like this album better on vinyl then CD. Favorite tracks are Fanfare/Carla Etude and Chloe. Heals of the Wind is a good bopper, too.

This is one fine and underrated album. I love the Vision video.

1. Breaking Down Barriers 10/10-Breaking em down.
2. Heart In The Right Place 8/10-Kind of a good creepy.
3. Just Like Belgium 10/10-A winner.
4. Nobody Wins 10/10-Why did it not chart higher?
5. Fascist Faces 10/10-Should have been a single.
6. Carla-Etude (Fanfare) 10/10-It's so beautiful and peaceful.
7. Chloe 10/10-Why did it not chart higher?
8. Heels Of The Wind 10/10-Upbeat, fast paced, great.
9. Elton's Song 10/10-Could have been another single.
10. The Fox 9/10-Countryesk, but good.
BONUS:
11. Fools In Fashion 10/10-I love it.
12. Can't Get Over Getting Over Loosing You 10/10-Yes, this is an awesome breakup country love song.

1. Breaking Down Barriers **** I've always lucked this one...minus the 'doo-doo-doo-doot-doo' which EJ hums in it and that part...I don't know, just not a fan of it...
2. Heart In The Right Place **
3. Just Like Belgium ***
4. Nobody Wins ***
5. Fascist Faces **
6. Carla-Etude (Fanfare) ****1/2 I took of the 1/2 because of Fanfare with it's dated and dull synths...
7. Chloe ****
8. Heels Of The Wind ***
9. Elton's Song *****
10. The Fox ****
BONUS:
11. Fools In Fashion ***1/2 kind of don't really remember this one...
12. Can't Get Over Getting Over Loosing You **1/2 "They'll be blue skies falling / They'll be sad scenes and bad dreams / In a world so uncertain / Through the clouds it's hard to see / I will grab you and lift you / As you hold on tight and sway / We'll go walking across the fields of gray"

Never liked it all that much ...

Breaking down barriers - 6/10
Heart in the right place - 6/10
Just Like Belgium - 8/10 - one of the few highlights here
Nobody Wins - 5/10 - what was Geffen thinking to release *this* as a single?
Fascist Faces - 5/10
Carla Etude/Fanfare - 7/10 - pretty but out of place
Chloe- 7/10 - also pretty, but the lyrics are weak
Heels of the Wind- 5/10
Elton's Song - 4/10 - weird
The Fox - 10/10 - FINALLY a top notch song

I find The Fox a very strange Elton album. Most of the songs individually, and as album as a whole just don't feel right. For me, it's part of the all time low phase of Elton's career -- starting with Victim of Love and ending with this album. Things started to look up again with Jump Up!.

A so-so album, and one i've not heard for years. I was in France at the time, got the version with the French hit J'veux de la tendresse (Nobody Wins). That year he also had a top 10 hit there with Donner pour Donner.

Anyway, comfortably the best track is Just Like Belgium. The album was certainly an improvement on 21 @ 33, and some good memories attached, but pipped by Jump Up, which i enjoyed and got a French friend into singing along to.

I believe that "Chloe" was not on the original UK and US LP releases of the album.
